The suburb of Aspley has been a popular choice with human families for over 50 years … which unfortunately, also makes it very attractive to pests like termites and cockroaches.
The 1960’s and 70’s saw huge growth in the region, particularly after the opening of the first major suburban shopping centre on Brisbane’s northside in nearby Chermside.

A Brief History of Aspley
To cater for the influx of families, three new schools – Aspley High, Aspley East State School, and St Dympna’s Catholic primary school – were opened in 1963.
By 1976, over 10,000 residents were living in the suburb which was once home to the Turrbal tribe.
Popularly known as the garden suburb, Aspley was a highly desirable area making it the perfect location for at least half a dozen Mater Prize Homes. These luxury architect-designed homes raised funds for the Mater Children’s Hospital Foundation, and showcased the latest interior trends – from shag pile carpeting to in-ground swimming pools and all-electric appliances. A visit to inspect the latest prize home was a popular weekend activity for all ages.

What Sort of Pests will you find in Aspley?
During Aspley’s boom years, the trend was for highset brick homes, which today can pose a trap for unwary home buyers and owners.
There is a widespread assumption that termites aren’t a threat to brick homes – however this is a myth.
Most “brick” homes are actually brick veneer, which means that only the façade is brick – the frame is still made of timber and vulnerable to termite attack.
Even “double brick” homes could be hiding a white ant infestation, in the timber floors, skirting boards, door frames or roof trusses, undermining the structural integrity of the home and potentially causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.
