During Aspley’s boom years, the trend was for highset brick homes, which today can pose a trap for unwary home buyers and owners.
There is a widespread assumption that termites aren’t a threat to brick homes – however this is a myth.
Most “brick” homes are actually brick veneer, which means that only the façade is brick – the frame is still made of timber and vulnerable to termite attack.
Even “double brick” homes could be hiding a white ant infestation, in the timber floors, skirting boards, door frames or roof trusses, undermining the structural integrity of the home and potentially causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.
